AV-TEST BEST PROTECTION 2011

Reaffirming a longstanding tradition of technological leadership, Bitdefender won the AV-Test Best Protection 2011 award. The award was the debut of annual awards by AV-TEST Institute, the Magedeburg, Germany-based security software analysis firm recognized as an authority by Bitdefender and all competitors. Bitdefender won a total rating of 80.5 points in three categories of tests, ahead of nearest competitor Kaspersky, with 78 points, and third-placed F-Secure, with 77.5.

B-HAVE is Bitdefender's patented heuristic detection engine. In order to protect computers, the majority of heuristic scanners, including the Bitdefender B-HAVE heuristic engine, temporarily delay applications from starting while the code is executed in a virtual environment that is completely isolated – or sandboxed - from the real computer. If no suspicious behavior is observed, the computer is instructed to start the application normally. If, on the other hand, suspicious behavior is observed, the computer is instructed to block the program. The entire process happens in fractions of a second and so has practically no impact on either the user's experience or performance.

Bitdefender Active Virus Control (AVC) is an innovative proactive detection technology which uses advanced heuristic methods to detect new potential threats in real time. It monitors each program running on your PC, as it executes, and notes malware-like actions. If enough such actions are detected, the program which performed them is declared harmful. Unlike any other heuristic technology that only checks files when they are accessed or first started, Active Virus Control monitors everything applications do as long as they are active.
